Engineers honour Senator Helen Esuene

In recognition of her contribution to the development of Akwa Ibom State, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Eket Branch on Monday in Eket paid a courtesy visit to Senator Helen Esuene and honoured her with encomiums.

The team of Engineers led by Engr. Godwin Umoh, Vice Chairman said the visit was part of a programme of events to mark the 2014 Engineering Week in Akwa Ibom State.
“As a leading player in the development of Akwa Ibom State, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Eket Branch, felt it very necessary to visit and intimate you of our 2014 Engineering Week taking place here in Eket”, Engr. Umoh told the Senator.

He commended the distinguished Senator for her numerous achievement towards the development of the State, most especially, the provision of a befitting office Block for the Nigerian Police in Eket, adding that Senator Helen Esuene qualifies and deserve to administer the State as a Governor come 2015.

Umoh said the theme of the 2014 Engineering Week centres on Industrialization and economic development which is the corner-stone of every developed Nation, adding that Akwa Ibom State is on the right path to industrial revolution with the basic infrastructure now in place in the State.

Responding, Senator Helen Esuene thanked the Engineers for the honour bestowed on her through the visit while commending leadership of the group for the correct direction and inspiration shown to other members which saw to Eket Branch of NSE coming third in a National Engineering exhibition of talents in Abuja recently.

“Engineering is a noble profession and it plays a vital role in the development of the Nation. I commend the Eket Branch which is younger, compared to other older branches in the Country, for its role in the development of Akwa Ibom State these past years”, Esuene said.

She called for a synergy between all department of Engineering including professions such as plumbing and other sundry professions so as to forestall the rising incident of collapsed buildings and fire outbreak in the country.

“NSE should beam its searchlight on professions such as plumbing and other sundry professions associated with building. Something is missing somewhere and we must do the right thing at the right time to forestall the embarrassing incidents of collapsed building in Nigeria”, Senator Esuene adviced.
She donated a reasonable amount to the Eket Branch of NSE for the building of its Secretariat and pledged to support their programmes aimed at economic development of the State.
